Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri was made the capital of the Moghul Empire by Emperor Akbar. Akbar was told by an old hermit that founding a new city at this place would bring him a so longed-after son. He believed in the superstition and moved his court in the uninhabited place West from Agra. 12 years later, he abandoned the capital of his whim and went back to Agra. Nowadays, it is completely deserted except for the tourists who marvel at the sight of this almost intact 450 year-old jewel.
